Cold, Cold Morning... back at Black Point Marina Empty Cold, Cold Morning... back at Black Point Marina

Post by Admin Sun Jan 10, 2010 10:51 am

Well, I hit my spot at Black Point Marina this morning at sunrise. I was instantly pulling in Jack after Jack.. after about an hour I started seeing schools of 2 - 6 Snook patrolling by - One was insanely huge.. others average. They were really tucked into the rocks, so trying to parallel cast and work lures back up the rocks was a pain.. in the strong wind. Even when it was successfully worked, the Snook wouldn't budge for anything. I was using naturally colored lures. I ended up switching to the red/white mirrolure. The red/white seemed to pull in twice as many Jacks and were finally turning the heads of the Snook. But the Snook were not aggressive at all, they were acting very lethargic. By the time they would turn around and follow the lure, the lure was coming out of the water at my feet. I think had I been in a boat casting to shore and working outward, it would have been a good Snook morning.. but in the end my results were lots of Jacks, working the incoming tide until about 9 am.. then i hit a point where the wind really kicked up, the sky became solid gray, and nothing was biting.. so I left.

Well, I went back out there.. the sun came back. It was all for nothing though. I caught one little jack. The 'cudas were swarming around, but were too slow in hitting the lures.. again, I think being on a boat casting in to the rocks and pulling them out would have been better. It was way to windy for the canoe however.. but at least getting out of the house is never as waste.
