DIY: Canoe Stabalizers
I do not know if any of you have seen the DIY kayak stabilizers HERE. I am in the process of adapting that set up to my Mohawk canoe. Pretty cool idea. I am going to be making a push poll as well.. making my poor boys flats boat
I also got a couple yards of 1000 Denier Coated Cordura Fabric to make a spray skirt for the canoe as well. It will cover the front 50% of the boat, and it will be button on. In the end I think the canoe will be a pretty cool little fishing vessel.
What you will need (Stabilizer Assembly Only):
4 - 5" x 11" Lobster Trap Floats
2 - Ram Mounts - Ram Tube 2008
1 - Can Insulating Spray Foam "Gap and Crack"
2 - 2" Cotter Pins
2 - Berkley Steel Leaders - Pre Made - 12" , 40lb
1 - 5/32 Drill Bit
1 - 7/8 Drill Bit/Bore Saw
1 - Hack Saw
2 - 24" x 1/2" PVC Pipe
2 - 48" x 1-1/2" PVC Pipe
1 - Serrated Blade
1 - Epoxy/Plastic Structural Glue (Foam Safe)
1 - Hacksaw
1 - Drill
1 - Measuring Tape
Video - Instruction - Assembly:
What you will need (Canoe Mounting Only):
2 - Home Made Canoe Stabilizer
1 - 50 pc. Stainless Steel #8-32 Machine Screw Nuts
1 - 50 pc. Stainless Steel #8-32 x 1" Machine Screws
1 - 50 pc. Stainless Steel #8 Washers
1 - Drill
1 - 5/32 Drill Bit
Reinforcing material - I used 1/4" PVC Sheet cut into 5 x 8 sections
1 - Scroll or Jig Saw (for cutting the above material)
Epoxy/Structural Glue
16 - Larger Washers (the biggest you can find that the #8 washers can retain)
* Optional
2 - Bungee Cords
2 - Bolt on Eye-Lets
Video - Instruction and Final Float Test - Canoe Mounting
Kayak Instructions - Coming Later

Additional:
If you are seeing slippage in the ball when deployed, be sure you have tightened the mount as hard as possible. If this continues to be an issue, you can roughen the ball with a rasp. This should solve any further slippage.
