Florida Astronomy
I decided to start this thread over a certain event coming up, but I think it would be pretty cool to keep it going with current celestial events over the state of Florida. So please contribute and share your astronomical experiences here.
____________
I heard that only once every 19 years is the moon full for new years eve into new years. That is happening tonight, and a "Blue Moon" as well. Blue moon is an astronomical phenomenon of having two full moons in a month and occurs in every two and a half years. But, to have a blue moon on the night before New Year is something rare and special.
A second full moon in a month is not so rare in months with 31 days since the moon takes 29.5 days to circle the Earth. The last full moon was sighted on December 2 and the second one in the same month is going to rise in the sky on December 31.
