Do you catch your own bait?
Just curious how many others catch their own bait. I know back when I use to go pier fishing at Haulover (Pre-Andrew) we spent the early hours cast netting for pilchards and sardines and generally had a 5 gallon bucket full for the day pretty quickly. When I hit Marina areas, docks, and shore fishing I like to wrangle up some small crabs and possibly cast net if the bait is running by. On the beach, of course, catching sand fleas is always fun. When all else fails, I go after pin fish on light tackle, using bits of shrimp, and a very small hook. Even in the freshwater I like to use one of those bait basket traps with a little piece of white bread inside it. After 5 minutes you have all the live bait you need for a day of bass fishing.
I guess I will always buy the staple bag of shrimp on my way out to fish, but other than that, I prefer to use what the given area has to offer and the predators are expecting to see in that area. Except I hand it to them on a silver platter . Do not get me wrong, I am a lure fisherman when I am out for sport fishing, but when it comes time to eat, make no mistake, I will be hooking dinner
